ANSWER TO OUR PROBLEMS by DG Wilson Mar 17, 2009
Earth First Profit Last
                                                       Page 2
What about our politicians and others that we employ to help us.  Aren't they doing anything?
The politicians that we hire don't stop the companies from making these awful decisions.  They get paid to listen to the companies not us.  That is called "Lobbying."  I call it scandalous.  It shouldn't happen but it does.
Did you know that major manufacturing companies routinely dump their toxic waste into the soil, lakes, rivers, sewers, streams?  These toxic wastes are left over chemicals that are not used to make the products they tell us we need, will break quickly and don't do what we want them to do.
So what can we do to stop the companies that sell us this crap, AND the politicians that are paid to allow it?

I believe I have a very easy answer.

What about our food source?  This is a terrible situation that needs to be handled immediately!   There is a crisis at our helm and we need to stop it immediately!
Farms using pesticides kill the planet, the animals, fish, amphibians and us.
Too many farms produces more people and yet lets food sit to rot while they starve.

Right now farmers are poor.  They have sold their farms to corporation.  This makes them employees that have to follow the companies orders.  They are not independent to make good choices and have to follow bad orders.  The companies want to make so much profit that they push and push their farms to the point of ill health.  For instance they will use very strong pesticides to kill off anything natural that will eat their produce and cut into their profit.  So to keep their profit they will damage the entire ecosystem of the planet AND harm us because these pesticides don't go away.  So, many poor farmers with land and produce meant companies could buy up more farms.  This too would increase their profit.
Now there are too many farms that use too many pesticides to produce too much food that sits around wasted.  Have you ever seen a grocery store bare of produce because it was sold out?  Me neither.  Farmers need to cut back on their production so there is less waste and more profit for them.   If there is more profit for them they can get free of the corporation that employ them now.
Why should they be free?  Independent farmers provide better food.  Farmers that work the land and depend upon it to feed the people close to them care more about their land and their produce.  They see where their food is going and will be held responsible if it is bad, praised if it is good.  Farmers that work for a board of trustees must do what they tell him to do.  That may mean dangerous chemicals, practices, short cuts, and other nasty things that we do not want done to our food.  There is no one to hold responsible if it is bad.
If there was less food being grown there would be more money for the farmers because people would buy what they had available.  There would be better quality food available for us all because local farmers would have to move their food to local markets.  Today fruit from around the world is shipped here.  The handling, trip, and time deplete the nutrients in the fruit.  Local produce holds more nutrients which would make us smarter, thinner, healthier and happier.  This will make us more productive at work so we make more money.  This will also allow the Earth to have a little break from all of the effort to raise so much food for so many so far away.

How food is grown is important to us too.  On farms there is two kinds of practice.  Organic farming and Pesticides.  One is good for the Earth even us, the other kills all.  Few corporation have Organic farms.  Most independent farmers would use Organic practices.  That means that bigger farms run by corporation are causing a majority of damage to us all.
As I mentioned the pesticides used to make the food withstand insects and rodents is killing us and the planet.  A farmers' worst nightmare is poor weather conditions and vermin that eat his stock.  We can't control the weather.   So corporation farms handle insects & mice that are competing with us for our food very aggressively.  They eat corn too.  So farms that use pesticides to kill them all off also end up killing US too.
The problem with these chemicals is that they also go into the water, soil, plants, trees, animals and air.  They affect everything on the planet EVERYWHERE on the planet because these chemicals are not natural and do not go away; they only wash away.  Pesticides have been linked to all sorts of diseases, and cancers for us.  But they have been linked to asthma, and braindiseases too.  Further when these chemicals are in the water, air, soil and animal life they are all hurt by them...which again affects us too.
The entire planet including us are hurt by these pesticides.
Watch the cycle.  An Organic farmer wants to grow corn to feed his cows, family, neighbors, friends, pigs, chickens and to sell for things he needs.  That is a lot of corn.  The farmer knows in a good year, that if he plants one acre he will get back about 90% that is good.  Some is lost to animals, insects, weather and other natural competition for his corn.  So the farmer plants a bit more than he needs for all of his uses.  He does this to make sure he has enough.
Now if the farmer used pesticides then everything would be affected by them.  Pesticides do not just go on the intended target they float on the wind.  Settle to the ground and sink in.  The rain comes and washes it off the corn and on top of the ground runs it to the nearest streams and so on it goes.  Pesticides don't wear off they wash off.  So they need to be reapplied.
If the farmer was a good farmer and used Organic farming practices all the corn and the land, water even air would be clean.  This is good for all of the planet.  His children, animals and neighbors all eat clean healthy corn.  They do not take in pesticides which can add up in a human and kill you.
We are more familiar with farming with pesticides than Organic farming.  Do you know what Organic farming uses to limit competition?
Organic farming uses natural elements to kill competition for our food.  Which means it is done in a safe way for the entire environment.  Instead of spraying hundreds of acres of corn with deadly chemicals to get rid of mice or bugs that eat the corn, Organic farming is to use other insects and animals that naturally eat the same competition.  Snakes eat mice naturally, so do owls, coyotes, and more.  Frogs eat insects, as do Praying Mantis and Lady Bugs.  They are natural and feed the Earth as they are helping us feed ourselves from the Earth.
Again, food that has pesticides has been linked to brain damage, mental handicaps, physical disabilities, attention deficit disorder and so much more.
Organic Produce heals the body though.  It nourishes the mind.  It helps us live better, longer and happier.  It makes us as a country and world a stronger people that will do more good for all because it is helping our bodies not killing it.  Organic farming helps the planet not kill it.
Not all natural competition can be eliminated.  It is bad for the entire environment if it is.  So Organic farmers will help the planet if a mouse does get a piece of corn.  When eaten the corn will nourish the mouse, which when eaten by the owl will help the owl get more mice.  Food sprayed by pesticides are also eaten by a mouse, but when it does, the mouse gets sick.  The owl may eat the sick mouse and die.  Food raised naturally with concern for the planet is better for the entire planet including the people.
There are two problems with Organic farming though.  Produce is much more expensive to buy because not everyone is doing it and not enough of us, the people demand it.  The second reason is that an Organic farm is in the same eco system as a NON Organic farm.  That means if one farmer is raising his corn for the planet, and another farm a hundred miles away is using pesticides...the pesticides DO go into the Organic farmers soil, is carried on the wind to his farm, gets washed into a stream used for watering or is picked up by a cloud and rained on his Organic produce.  There is no way to separate one farm from another.  We all need to have Organic food, and all farmers need to grow their food Organically.
But how do we get the farmers to only grow Organically?
The answer to ALL of these problems is in our hands.  We are not permitted to know how heavy our weapon is, but we do hold one.  Further our weapon is so powerful it will crush any politician, any business corp. and any farmer.  THAT is why they do not let us realize just how much power we hold!

From Organic farming to good products that help the people AND planet in every stage of its' existence... the answer... IS our wallets.  By taking away our money they can not make their product.  If we need their product we can tell them we will NOT buy it until they change it for the better.  WE have the power because they ultimately serve us.  If we don't want it they can't sell it.  If they can't make enough sales they will not be able to make more.  WE win.
