BLOG ENTRY: RIDICULOUS RELIGIONS

HELLO! I just saw the movie RELIGULIOUS by Bill Mauher and was talking with the DVD rental guy. He said a lot of people were asking about it and the message. He also said that he was now confused. "I don't know what to think. I mean, I don't believe in all the stories, but I am still Catholic. I love God...so I just don't know."
My feeling is that loving God and Thinking are supposed to be done together. Religion does not want you to think about it, just swallow it All whole. I think we are smarter than that. There is fiction, fairy tales AND the message of God; in my mind. (How's THAT for a Holy Trinity?) I believe the Bibles were written to entertain (when there was almost none) and to educate simple people with examples from the time it was written.
WE need to understand that we are all more advanced now. We are smarter. Religion would actually do better to adopt this new way of thinking and make it so people can read MODERN stories, understand the message and learn from the example. Wasn't there a TV show like that?
I feel the answer is to take the core message of all religions: do want YOU would want done to you in ANY situation...even in the face of your worst enemy. THAT'S it! That is the entire message from all religions. You would not want to be cheated, killed, raped, robbed and so on so don't do it to anyone else. THAT IS IT. There is no more to any religion than that.
EVERYTHING else that fills the covers are decorative ways to say that message.
We need to use our brains and put things into MODERN context to get the full message. The stories in the Bibles are stories about actions by different people written by people that interprets the messages for you.
God just wants us to respect the other and treat everyone as well as we WANT to be treated! You don't have to defend the stories or examples in any bible. You don't even have to arrest your intellect to love God. Who gave us the brain anyway? God did, so what sense does it really make to NOT use your intelligence when trying to understand a lesson? How else do you learn?
The truth is religion is a business. And like all businesses we DON'T have to buy everything on the shelves. Just the things that appeal to us the most or need the most.
Remember religion can be good for some people. The stories somehow help because they are so amazing. Other people don't need the stories to be amazed by the power of God. Still more may not even need a religion at all to love God. Different people understand the messages according to THEIR intelligence.
So fighting over a belief or the way you see your own version of God is actually very wrong. Don't do it because you would not anyone to fight with you about your belief. God is free and people are free to love God in their own way. If you need stories great, but respect those that don't. If you don't need the stories then accept those people that do need them.
Honestly there is a great way to feel God, get blessings, healing, and help with your daily life. It is a way to tap directly into the power of God. Not an angel or mini god, but the Big "Guy". This way does not involve a church, or even a congregation. It certainly does NOT involve any money. It is totally free.
I speak of Meditation. This is simply switching off all of your thoughts and slowing down your breathing. Your heart rate slows and so does your aging, angers, disease, and more. Blessing comes to you instantly, more quickly than in a church mind you, INSTANTLY. You feel better right away, rested and improved. Somehow you even feel charged. There is an infinite amount of things to "do" in meditation, levels to advance. So you are never bored. You can meditate anywhere, anytime and be benefitted. You do not need to confess to anyone about your sins it is between you, your soul, and God. Now THAT is the REAL holy trinity to me.
Years ago I wrote a book on the business of religion and how fighting other people over their belief tears us all down. Religion is a business that is now responsible for innocent people dying in wars over the "Proper" expression of love for God. It ALL needs to stop. Use your head and get over the mystery. THERE IS NO MYSTERY! God is good and exists in all different forms to different people. God is FREE. God is outside churches as well. God is not going to help some people over other people WE have to help ourselves; women are actually the answer. Check it out. GOD IS DEAD!
