Does DG Wilson do Cover Ups, Touch Ups, Fix Ups, Finish other Artists work or Tattoo Repairs?
YES! DG's number one goal is to make each person happy. If you have a tattoo from another that you can no longer find, maybe a tattoo artist that is not right for you, or just want to get your current tattoo turned into a Masterpiece give DG a call.
Cover ups are a speciality of DG's and take a great deal of skill so they are not cheap.
Some images cover tattoos better than others, tell DG what you want to cover your current tattoo and he will tell you if it is possible, perhaps even make a suggestion for you.
PRICES: How much does a tattoo cost by DG Wilson?
DG Wilson has two different kind of tattoos. MASTERPIECES Tattoos by DG Wilson, start at an incredibly low $50 as a minium. The more work, the more money. He is also very fair. If you want a large but simple tattoo you will be charged the same amount as someone that would want a very small but intricate or time consuming design. It is all about his time. Generally DG charges per finished tattoo.
Regular Masterpieces tattoo is quoted as a range of prices. He will tell you a range so YOU can choose how much you wish to devote to yourself. If you wanted to spend even more then don't hesitate to give it to DG, he deserves it. Work can be divided into sessions to ease your wallet.
The ULTIMATE MASTERPIECE is a larger work that is handled in a more artistic way. These are not flat fee work and need to be handled as sessions. The price for this type of work is $300 an hour (because DG works very, very fast.) This is a highly artistic, free hand tattoo that will be layered for a unique look! Sessions will be estimated and if you have a cut off point make sure to tell DG, he is very fair.
Does DG have Flash Art hanging in the shop?
NO. The only Tattoo Art from which you can choose your design is Old Flash Art that DG drew up for Other tattoo artists world wide. There are hundreds of photos and hundreds more works of art to look at, but this is a shop where it is ONLY custom tattooing.
This means that DG Wilson will Draw up Your Tattoo just for you. If 5 girls want hearts and roses they all get a different version. Not only will DG include aspects that you may want for your tattoo such as other flowers, animals, fancy tribal work that compliments...but he can do special effects too. DG can design a flower for YOUR skin, musculature, personality even budget as well as make it look like it was made out of Stone, Steel, Chrome, Crystal, Ice, On fire, Made out of Fire, Made of Wood, Smoke, Under the Skin, Tearing out of the Skin, Floating Off the skin or coming in and out of your skin. Just to name a few examples.
But no, there is no flash, this will ensure you get what YOU WANT not just what you like out of the options available. Also Hand Drawn Custom Tattoos is the REAL custom tattoos and ensures that you are the only one in the world with your tattoo.
Do I have to bring in my own drawing?
NO. DG Wilson will hand draw (not trace out) your tattoo. In most cases right before your eyes.
Each piece is unique, Can I and my crew get the same tattoo though?
Even though DG is an artist he will be able to duplicate a design over and over. If need be he will even reuse the same stencil. Of course...keep in mind that DG Wilson is not a photocopier but he is extremely good at what he does. The same tattoo for any number of people is possible. They will all look the same and ensure that you are recognized as together. Further, each can be subtly altered to ensure that they look good on EACH person.
All Custom Tattoos, Can I bring in some pictures?
Yes, of course do any and all reserch that you desire...but it is not necessary. 90% of all tattoos are designed right there on the spot before your eyes at Masterpieces. Just tell DG what you want, where you want it, and about how much you are looking to spend (be flexible!) He will take care of all the rest for you. IF you did want a specific work of art, photo, image, even style simply show DG what you have at the time of your tattoo and he will utilize your desires as well as translate the image into the best tattoo for your skin, musculature, personality.
Where is DG Wilson's shop Located?
Masterpieces is located off the beaten track in the heart of Brooklyn NYC; beautiful Bed-Stuy.

His shop is also a forerunner for the industry. DG works on a residential, tree lined block in the ground floor of his own building. This offers him greater flexibility with his work, keeps him close to home, provides better security and eliminates costly commute time and fees. Also DG can use his shop as a show room for all of his work including murals. There is even a private landscaped back yard (that he did) with a pond, plants, flowers, Bonsai and a relaxed environment. This yard can be used by VIP clients and for Tattoo Parties.
Why is it off the beaten track?
Mainly for the peace, quiet, and low cost. A store front allows strangers to come and go, waste time, and gawk at you! Also they are very expensive and that expense must be passed onto the client. Here at this location the prices are relatively inexpensive because DG has eliminated a huge cost of his own; Store Rent. This means better tattoos WITHOUT gawkers, in a peaceful, comfortable atmosphere with prices that are more affordable than you might expect.
Is the shop nice and sterile?
Oh Yes and very comfortable too. The tattoo area is handled with a three step Sterilization Process for Surfaces done before a tattooing begins, after the tattoo is finished and during the course of the day. DG uses Madacide, Alcohol, and the UV Handheld Sterilizer.
Further, if you read his article on the subject published in The Tattoos Zine.com, he also sterilizes the door knobs, bath room surfaces, chairs, lights, walls, books and more not just the tattoo area.
DG of course uses ONLY Sterile Single Use & Disposable Needles. They are opened right in front of you. As are the Tubes and all other equipment like cup caps and ink. EVERYTHING is cleaned up, discarded, and Sterilized before your eyes.
After 15 YEARS there has never been a single infection or communication of disease that has been attributed to DG or his shop.
Will I get any kind of infection from DG Wilson?
As I just mentioned, DG has a pristine record after a decade and a half. You will NOT receive ANY infection from DG or the equipment/shop. I feel you have many more germs and contaminates on the bus and subway than DG's entire place! That is a key factor here. You must understand that you are leaving DG's shop with a sterile, beautiful tattoo. It is up to YOU to keep it that way! (Proper care is key for optium look and health.)
It is important to disclose that everyone is different and handle the same inks and process differently.
Does DG take Walkins?
No. You MUST call and set an appointment. Even if you are trying your luck and call the morn of the day that you wish to visit... you must have an appointment.
How do I get an appointment with DG?
Submit your request on a $50 dollar bill.... JUST KIDDING! All you have to do is give DG a call! Call the shop direct (718) 398 6876. If you get his machine, DG is working and can't get to the phone. Please leave your message clearly with your number twice. (Hanging up and calling right back many times just annoys DG, you don't want to annoy the guy that is going to hurt you...do you?)
Does DG take Consultations?
That is actually DG's perferred method of working for BIG pieces.
If you are getting a small piece about 6 x6 inches or less then come in ready for some pain!
For BIG pieces that will take a few sessions and you take very seriously it is best you call and make an appointment for a Consultation, make sure to Specify Consultation during the call. Then DG will talk you though a great number of ideas and concepts, drawing out what he is describing as he goes.
You can tell him what you like and what you don't. Also make sure to mention your budget.
DG Wilson will draw up your tattoo sketch right before your eyes and then spend more time on it refining it further until your next appointment.
You will have to leave a deposit of 25-50% for your tattoo. The balance will be due at the end of the tattoo or divided for each session.
Why Appointment Only?
DG is a very busy, hard working family man. Much of his life centers around tattoos but there is a small number of hours that he slings the ink. Also he has people visit from all over the country. An appointment perserves your time with DG Wilson. Take care to show up on time.
I am not an artist. Can DG Hand Draw my Tattoo For me?
Again, YES. It may be hard to believe but DG Wilson Actually draws up your tattoo just for you. If more than one person wants the same subject (Panthers) then DG draws up a UNIQUE version for each and every tattoo.
He has done Thousands of Panthers...and they are ALL unique!
Draw Up...does that mean TRACING a tattoo?
DG Wilson Actually Draws up your tattoo design. If you need a tiger standing atop of an Egyptian Pyrmid then he draws up the tiger standing on it, he DOES NOT trace out a tiger and then trace out a Pyrmid.
Then when the drawing is approved by you, DG Wilson will Hand Stencil it. He does not use a machine, he hand Stencils the design.
This Stencil is the drawing translated to a tattoo outline and is a simplified version of the drawing. It gets placed where you say you wanted the tattoo.
The Stencil gives you an idea as to where and how your tattoo will look. You can have the Stencil moved if you wished.
I like DG's Photos of Tattoos, but I don't see what I really had in mind, Can DG still tattoo my idea?
DG Wilson has done about 50,000 tattoos over the last decade and a half. There are Very, Very few Photos shown online. There is a small selection that numbers in the hundreds in the shop BUT you Probably WON'T find the exact design you wanted.
The reason why is that DG has not Drawn Up YOUR tattoo yet. These are photos of Other Peoples' tattoos and what they wanted.
Even if you did want Exactly what you saw you would still get a version that is designed for YOUR body, personality and budget...this also perserves the integrity of THEIR Custom Tattoo.
You wouldn't want someone stealing YOUR idea would you?
That is another reason why so few are shown online...this prevents other tattooists from stealing DG's work.
If every tattoo is Draw Up by hand, can I be sure MY tattoo will be unique?
Even if someone wanted a tattoo exactly from a photo shown they would get their own version that was designed for their body, body area, skin type and tone, personality and budget.
These factors change sometimes dramatically between patrons. The Tattoo does as well.
Does DG Wilson do any other kind of art besides tattoos?
DG Wilson Paints in a large variety of forms or styles. Landscapes, Abstracts, Ink Blots, Bonsai in Nature, Industrial are his main series. He also paints Portraits and Commissions, which is what the Patron wishes. Originals and Prints are available for Purchase.
DG also Draws copious amounts of ideas and sketches for himself and others.
He Illustrates your business ideas and for professional companies. Further he designs Logos.
DG Wilson has written 7 books, 4 he Illustrated and Published, you can see and buy them on this site in the BOOKS PAGE.
He designs and publishes his own websites, all 10 of them. There are sites for Adults, Kids, Families, Your Own Business, Publishing, Tattooing and for Artists.
DG Wilson does Murals and drawing for your childrens' rooms. He has also created a CD that will help your Newborns sleep better for longer and LEARN while they sleep.
Further DG sells Advertising space in his Books and Websites.
If DG does so much, can I be sure that he will have time for my project?
He is a very disciplined and hard working artist that will get YOUR job done too. Every minute of his day is scheduled and he could easily work 20 hours a day.
DG Wilson also works 8 Days a week, 400 Days a Year.
